January 28, 2009 Pharmaceutical Authentication Solution Surpasses Significant Milestone
XStream Systems, Inc. today announced that one of their deployed material identification systems has surpassed a significant milestone by scanning and authentication over 20,000 bottles of drugs in a single location.
The single XT250 system, located in a prominent but unnamed specialty pharmaceutical distributor in the Southeast, has been running in double and triple shifts and has been checking all their incoming products. The deployed unit is an integral part of inventory security and control which gives the distributor absolute assurance that their inventories do not contain counterfeit or adulterated products.
“We are very excited about this milestone with this particular deployment of our system, “stated Alan Clock, Senior Vice President of XStream System. “This system has been performing reliably and is responsible for detecting on average one counterfeit product per month since it has been installed.”.
According to Clock, this end user exemplifies why many pharmaceutical distributors need to deploy an authentication technology to verify and protect its inventories. “Like many within the pharmaceutical supply chain, this distributor realized how vulnerable their inventories were and recognized that pedigrees and RFID tags were not enough to protect their customers,” he said. “By scanning and verifying all products that are received and returned, they now offer their customers the safest and most reliable source of supply anywhere. This type of authentication will ultimately be highly valued by their customers and prospects resulting in higher sales and profitability.”
